Licensing Basics
Ordering
from
Hillstock
The
Answers
Does
Hillstock claim copyrights to the images? They are by other
artists. How does that work?
The original
sources of art from The Hillstock Collection™
are in the public domain, meaning the copyright has
expired. Hillstock only offers clip art digitized
directly from authentic vintage art within our private
collection. Hillstock does not redistribute images
from "public libraries" or questionable
sources. Hillstock creates derivative works and unique
collections that are registered with the United States
Copyright Office. We also always own the rights to
the digital files we create. When you purchase a CD
you are granted a license to use our image collections
according to the terms of use.
Can
I use your images to make a personal or professional web
site, or make web sets to share with others, or rubber stamps?
Our clip
art was designed primarily for paper and print applications.
Our license
allows no more than three images from any one collection
to be used on a web site. This is to prevent unauthorized
downloads of our image collections. Additionally, we do
not permit creating web sets, rubber stamps, collage sheets,
"tubes" and similar items since this would be
a form of image redistribution.
Can
I use your images on items for sale (retail items)?
Our
standard
license does not allow resale usage. Please fill
out our online
application for resale usage permissions and any
added fees.
What's
the best media, printer, software, etc. to use for
my project using your images?
Hillstock
does not provide technical support. We list image
resolution and sizes; you will need to check with
your product help files and manuals for usage instructions.
What
is "comping"?
Image comping
is using an image preview on our site in a mock up to see
if it will work in your project. To use a comp just right
click and save the watermarked preview to your hard drive.
Keep in mind that the images on the CD are at a high printing
resolution, so that the web previews will not print out
at the same quality. Actually using image previews in your
projects without paying for a license is strictly prohibited.
Can
I buy just one image from a CD collection?
Single images
can be found on HillstockImages.com
(royalty-free) and VintageStockArt.com
(rights-managed); otherwise our CDs are sold as collections
only.
Do
your CDs contain duplicate images?
With one
exception, there are NO duplicate images on any of the CD
collections on VintageClipArt.com. The one CD which has
some duplicate images is the Olden
Christmas Clip Art CD which contains many Christmas
images from our Vintage Holiday Graphics Clip Art CDs Volume
I, Volume
II and Volume
III.
Can
I download an image after I pay?
All of our
CD collections come with the option of downloading a single
image from the collection after you purchase a CD. A link
is emailed to you after you place your order. We do not
offer "virtual CDs".

methods of payment do you accept?
